Alese Hash, RN, at Twin County Regional Healthcare in Galax, has been honored with The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses. The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s international program that celebrates the compassion, skill, and dedication nurses bring to patients and families every day.

Alese, a nurse on the medical‑surgical unit, was nominated by a patient’s family member who shared heartfelt appreciation for the way she went above and beyond to ensure their loved one felt truly cared for. “Alese demonstrated exceptional professionalism throughout every step of the process. She consistently went above and beyond her role, showing true compassion and care for my wife and for our family,” said the patient’s spouse.

The not‑for‑profit DAISY Foundation, based in Glen Ellen, California, was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 at age 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The extraordinary nursing care Patrick received inspired his family to create an award that shines a light on the difference nurses make during life’s most vulnerable moments.

“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced the remarkable skill and care nurses provide around the clock,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co‑Founder of The DAISY Foundation. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super‑human work they do. Nurses at Twin County exemplify the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

“Alese’s compassion, clinical excellence, and unwavering dedication embody the heart of nursing,” said Charleen Ryan, RN, MA, MFT, Chief Nursing Officer at Twin County Regional Healthcare. “Winning the DAISY Award highlights the extraordinary impact she makes every day — not only through her skill, but through the kindness and humanity she brings to each interaction. We are incredibly proud to have her on our team.”
