TCRH Stands with Our Community During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 24, 2025
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Twin County Regional Healthcare (TCRH) wants to remind every woman in our community: your health matters. Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lifetime, but early detection can save lives. A simple screening mammogram can make all the difference.
Why It’s Important
Breast cancer is often treatable when found early. A mammogram—a quick, low-dose X-ray—can detect changes in breast tissue long before symptoms appear. If you’re 40 or older, talk to your doctor about scheduling your mammogram. Most women start screenings at 40 and continue every one to two years, but your provider can help you decide what’s best for you.
What to Expect
A mammogram is fast and safe. You’ll change into a gown, and a technician will gently position your breast between two plates for a brief X-ray image. It may feel a little uncomfortable for a few seconds, but it’s over quickly—and it could save your life. Skip deodorant, lotion, or perfume on the day of your exam for the clearest images.
We’re Here for You
We understand that getting a mammogram can feel intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. Our team is here to make the process easy and reassuring. If follow-up is needed, remember: most findings are not cancer—they’re often just dense tissue or unclear images.
"At Twin County Regional Healthcare, your health is our priority. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is more than a reminder—it’s a call to action. We encourage every woman in our community to schedule her mammogram and take this important step toward lifelong wellness. We’re here to support you every step of the way."
