Twin County Regional Healthcare (TCRH) is proud to announce the implementation of new Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets throughout its patient care units and pharmacy system. This state-of-the-art technology replaces the facility’s decade-old Acudose equipment, marking a significant investment in patient safety and medication security.

The new Omnicell system is designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of medication distribution. With integrated bar-code scanning and “Guiding Light” technology, the system supports nursing staff in safely selecting and administering patient-specific medication doses in a timely manner. This innovation is expected to improve patient access to critical, life-saving medications and reduce the risk of medication errors.

“We are excited to bring this advanced technology to our facility,” said Frank Harmon, Executive Director of Pharmacy and Support Services at TCRH. “The new system will enhance medication security and play a vital role in improving patient outcomes.”

In addition to bedside care enhancements, the Omnicell Controlled Substance Manager will significantly upgrade how controlled substances are tracked across the hospital. By replacing outdated paper logs, the system enables electronic tracking from the pharmacy to individual dispensing units, enhancing accountability and security.

“This technology enhances our ability to monitor controlled substances and helps us prevent misuse or diversion,” Harmon added. “It’s a critical step forward in protecting both our patients and our community.”

Robin Pack, Executive Director of Quality and Risk Management, echoed the enthusiasm for the upgrade. “We are very excited about the added safety features this system brings. It aligns perfectly with our ongoing commitment to high-quality patient care.”

The implementation process began earlier this year, with full deployment scheduled to go live on July 22, 2025. The project is funded by Lifepoint Health, based in Brentwood, Tennessee, with a total investment of over $500,000.
