Twin County Regional Healthcare, extraordinary care is not just a goal—it’s a daily commitment lived out by nurses like Hulda Frogel, RN, whose compassion and clinical excellence recently earned her one of nursing’s most meaningful honors: the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

For patients and families navigating some of life’s most vulnerable moments in the ICU, Hulda is more than a nurse—she is a steady voice, a calming presence, and a source of strength when it matters most. Whether monitoring complex clinical conditions or simply holding a patient’s hand, Hulda brings both skill and heart to every interaction.

The DAISY Award, a national recognition program, was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes following his passing from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Inspired by the profound compassion shown by his nurses, the Barnes family established the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses who make an extraordinary difference in the lives of others.

Hulda embodies that mission fully.

Colleagues describe her as someone who consistently goes above and beyond—not because it is expected, but because it is simply who she is. In high-pressure ICU situations, she brings clarity, reassurance, and unwavering focus to both her patients and her team. Her ability to blend clinical expertise with genuine human connection leaves a lasting impression on everyone she cares for.

“Hulda represents the very best of nursing,” said Ryan Charleen, RN, MA, MFT, Chief Nursing Officer at Twin County Regional Healthcare. “Her calm strength, deep compassion, and commitment to excellence make a difference not only for our patients and families, but also for her colleagues. She reminds us every day why this work matters.”

The DAISY Award is presented in more than 5,000 healthcare organizations and schools of nursing across the United States and in 36 countries worldwide. Recipients are honored with a certification, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved “Healer’s Touch” sculpture—symbols of the profound impact nurses have on the lives they touch.

For Twin County Regional Healthcare, celebrating Hulda is also a celebration of the values that define the organization: compassion, integrity, and excellence in every patient experience.

“Hulda’s care changes lives,” Charleen added. “We are proud to honor her and grateful that she is part of our Twin County family.”

Please join us in congratulating Hulda Frogel on this well-deserved recognition—and in thanking all nurses who make a difference, one patient
