Twin County Regional Healthcare - Investing in Tomorrow’s Nurses, Today

March 21, 2023

Nursing is one of the most rewarding professions available to young adults today. In the fall of 2022, Twin County Regional Healthcare (TCRH) leadership team met with the leadership of Wytheville Community College’s nursing programs.  Several challenges and barriers for individuals wanting to enter the medical field were identified by both leadership teams and ideas on how to eliminate some of those challenges and barriers were discussed.

Today, William (Bill) Alley, MHA, BSN, RN, CNOR, Chief Nursing Officer of Twin County Regional Healthcare met with Karla Yates, MSN, RN, Program Head for the Associate Degree of Nursing Program, to present the college with “nursing kits” for incoming students.

“These kits were created with the intent to remove one significant barrier, access to medical equipment that must be purchased by the students at the start of their program,” said Leslie Bowers, Director of Human Resources of Twin County Regional Healthcare.  “Each 7-piece kit includes a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, nurse’s watch, pen light, utility scissors, measuring tape, and a carrying case for easy access.”

“We feel every nurse should have the tools needed to be successful,” said Gregory Pearson, Chief Executive Officer of Twin County Regional Healthcare. “And today we were able to do a small part in Making Communities Healthier by investing in the future, today.”
