Twin County Surgery Welcomes Dr. Wei

Twin County Surgery is pleased to welcome Wei Wei, MD, FACS to the Twin County Regional Healthcare team and to our community. Dr. Wei began offering coverage for the practice and the hospital in 2018 and plans to serve area patients full-time moving forward.

Dr. Wei received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Tongji Medical University. He conducted his internship in general surgery at Oregon Health and Science University. After completion of his residency at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Dr. Wei has attended and been certified by many prestigious mini-fellowship training programs in minimally invasive surgery and complex open surgery for colon cancer, abdominal wall hernia and thyroid surgery at the University of California (UC Los Angeles Hospital, UC Irvine Medical Center and UC San Diego Hospital), Duke University Hospital, University of Minnesota, Medical College of Georgia,  Carolinas Medical Center Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is currently the assistant professor of the VCOM Department of Surgery. Dr. Wei is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. For the past seven years, he practiced in the New River Valley.

Dr. Wei has received numerous honors, including the Fellow of American College of Surgeons, the Excellence in Healthcare Gold Achievement Award and the Robert E. Berry MD Award for Outstanding Performance and Professionalism to name a few.

In 2019, Dr. Wei was one of only three surgeons in the nation to be awarded the Nizar N. Oweida, MD, FACS, Scholarship from the American College of Surgeons to further clinical interests in rural communities. He has been invited by the American College of Surgeons to speak about his rural surgery achievement at the international conference this October in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Wei brings a vast array of experience in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, hernia repair, breast cancer surgery, colonoscopy, colon cancer surgery, thyroid surgery and general surgery procedures. 

In the past several months, Dr. Wei and his team have successfully performed a number of new and complex laparoscopic procedures with excellent results. These included laparoscopic colon cancer surgery, gallbladder surgery, groin hernia repair, abdominal wall hernia repair and peritoneal dialysis catheter placement.
