Tis the season! Give yourself the gift of peace, and good health

December 1, 2015

The holidays are here, and that means family, food, shopping and gifts.  For some, it also means climbing rickety ladders to hang holiday lights or carefully maneuvering the roofline to get Santa perfectly positioned.  Wherever you fall on the spectrum of holiday festivities, one thing is for certain: none of us wants to spend this special time of year concerned about having health insurance, should something go wrong.

If you’re uninsured, explore the Health Insurance Marketplace this holiday season and give yourself the gift of peace.  Peace in knowing that if you fall from a ladder, you can afford the care needed to recover.  Peace in knowing that if you have a pre-existing medical condition, you will have support paying for your ongoing care.  Peace in knowing that you will be able to provide your child with proper wellness checks and vaccinations needed to stay healthy.
One major health event can shatter an uninsured individual’s financial well-being. That’s why the Health Insurance Marketplace was formed– to provide quality, affordable insurance options to individuals who don’t have coverage through other means.  Anyone in our community who is currently uninsured should take advantage of open enrollment and find the plan that gives the right level of coverage and the peace of mind that comes with it.

All of these scenarios, and so many others, are prime reasons to shop and compare the comprehensive health insurance plans available to all uninsured individuals, now through January 31, 2016.  The plans vary in scope and price, so it is imperative that you spend time exploring your options and make the selection that best meets you and your family’s needs.  To help you navigate the system, Twin County Regional Hospital has a Certified Application Counselor on hand through the end of January.  You can call, email or schedule an in-person visit.

In addition to peace of mind, signing up for insurance will also ensure that you are not hit with increased federal penalties.  In 2016, penalties will be as high as $695 a person or 2.5% of your annual income, whichever is higher.

So before you get out the lights or get lost in the holidays, visit the Health Insurance Marketplace and find the plan that works for you.  This is a gift that will truly keep on giving.
