Galax, VA, April 24, 2018 – The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, today released the new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Twin County Regional Hospital was one of 750 awarded an ‘A’ for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

Health Insurance Marketplace Now Open for Enrollment

On November 1, open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace will begin. As you may recall, the Health Insurance Marketplace has been offering expanded access to low-cost healthcare coverage for people without health insurance, or for those who are interested in exploring more cost-effective alternatives to their current coverage, since its inception in 2013. Last year alone, more than 12 million people obtained health coverage through the Marketplace.

(Galax, Virginia – August 17, 2017) – Dale Alward, FACHE, has been named the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Twin County Regional Healthcare (TCRH), effective August 28. He will serve as the fourth CEO in Twin County Regional Healthcare’s 44 year history. Alward replaces interim CEO Agnes Smith, RN, MSN, who is also the hospital’s chief nursing officer (CNO) and has been serving in dual roles since earlier this year.

While breast cancer incidence rates have been declining since the year 2000, those numbers remain too high.

Two years ago, the Health Insurance Marketplaces, a key provision of the Affordable Care Act, opened for the first time. Since then, an estimated 10.2 million Americans have enrolled for healthcare coverage through the online marketplace, which allows people to browse coverage options, compare plans and purchase health insurance that meets their individual needs. Over 795,000 individuals experience a stroke each year with about 60% of the deaths occurring in women. Although more women have breast cancer than strokes, more women actually die from strokes than from breast cancer.
