Digital Mammography

276.236.1680

We are located on the first floor between the Emergency Department and Lab. Drive around past the ED entrance and turn Right into the Diagnostic Imaging parking lot. There is an Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging entrance that will bring you directly into the Registration area.

Hours of Operation
The Mammography department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Procedures & Preparation
Mammography uses small doses of radiation to produce images of the breast.

Please inform your physician at the time of scheduling if you have implants or are experiencing any problems such as a palpable mass or nipple discharge. This is very important information that must be relayed to the Diagnostic Imaging scheduling staff at the time of scheduling.

Please do not wear any deodorant or powders on the day of your mammogram. Deodorant will be available to you after your mammogram is completed.

If you have had mammograms performed at another facility in the past year, please bring them with you. This is VERY important for the Radiologist when he reads your exam to be able to compare your previous mammogram with your current one.

Needle Localization of breast lesions using Mammography need to also be scheduled with Outpatient Surgery.

Report Pickup
You will receive a letter in the mail in approximately one week after your mammogram to let you know your results. A copy of your results will also be sent to your doctor.

Insurance Information
Most insurances will pay for an annual mammogram. Most insurance also require that you wait at least a year after your last mammogram. If you do not know if your insurance company will pay for annual mammograms or have any questions regarding their timeframe requirements, please contact your insurance carrier.

If your insurance requires that you wait a year between mammograms and it hasn't been a year, you may be asked to sign an ABN stating that you are aware that your insurance will not pay and that you will be billed for the entire amount of the procedure.
